The Baltimore Orioles and Arizona Diamondbacks collide in Phoenix Monday hoping to help their dwindling playoff chances.
Arizona was trampled in a rubber match Sunday 9-5 by the New York Mets. The D-Backs trailed 4-0 out of the gates and a three-run NY seventh inning put Arizona in another major hole 8-4. The Diamondbacks had pulled within a run after three frames thanks to Aaron Hill’s double and home run. Cliff Pennington’s RBI-single during the bottom of the eighth drove in Gerardo Parra for Arizona’s final run.
Elsewhere Baltimore helped their postseason possibilities by rallying past the San Francisco Giants 10-2 to take a rubber match Sunday. The O’s trailed 2-0 after the first inning before turning the tables late with Matt Cain (7-8, 4.44 ERA) on the hill. Baltimore bounced in three runs while Cain was in the game due to Nate McLouth’s RBI-single and J.J. Hardy’s HR. The Orioles then compiled seven runs off the SF bullpen. Adam Jones led the assault of the relievers with four runs driven in, three off a HR.
Scott Feldman (2-3, 5.70 ERA) gets his seventh start with Baltimore on Monday. Just Feldman’s first outing with the O’s resulted in a no-decision a 4-2 Baltimore victory at the Chicago White Sox. At the Kansas City Royals July 22 Feldman beat KC by yielding two runs during eight frames.

The D-Backs however mauled Feldman 11-3 last June 14 driving in six runs, four earned, during five innings. Feldman has fallen in his last two starts surrendering nine runs during 9.2 frames. Arizona is 15-of-82 with seven RBIs, a pair apiece from Jason Kubel and Pennington, against Feldman.
The Orioles have only seen Wade Miley (9-8, 3.56 ERA) three times. Steve Pearce is 0-of-3 versus Miley without and RBI or walk. Miley has won five of his last six trips including his last four at Chase Field conceding six runs during 30.2 innings.
Also in Phoenix Miley has dropped the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 6.2-frame two-run affair April 10. At Chase though in May the Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres scarred Miley for 14 runs, 13 earned, during 8.2 innings. The Diamondbacks are 7-2 however when Miley reports to duty from the mound in Phoenix. Baltimore’s in trouble.
