Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies Free Pick - 8/12/13

The Philadelphia Phillies hope to stop the bleeding with a visit to face the Atlanta Braves.
The season from a competitive stand point for Philadelphia is over and if truth be known, it has been over for quite some time. A 6-0 loss at Washington changed nothing but saddle the Phillies with defeats in nine of eleven as the offense and pitching continue to struggle. Starter Kyle Kendrick has been in fade mode and that continued with all six runs allowed (four earned) on eleven hits and two free passes over 4.1 frames. The offense never solved Stephen Strasburg who blanked the Phillies on four hits and a base on balls in a complete game effort. Left hander Cole Hamels opens the series on the mound versus their NL East rival. Hamels threw the ball well in a 5-2 loss to Miami with only two runs plated in seven frames before the pen allowed three in the 9th.
Atlanta hasn’t tasted defeat very often over the past several weeks, so it was interesting to see how the Braves would respond from a 1-0 loss to Miami on Saturday. Not to worry as the offense and pitching responded in a big way in a 9-4 rout against the visiting Marlins on Sunday. Starter Mike Minor didn’t have his greatest performance with all four runs given up on six hits and a free pass over seven innings pitched. That was plenty good enough with the bats pounding Miami pitching for 12 hits and walking four times. Freddie Freeman clubbed a three run homer and Chris Johnson doubled in two more as Atlanta erased a 3-1 deficit. Julio Teheran shoots for win number three in a item when he takes the hill against the visiting Phillies. Teheran has given up two runs on nine hits and four walks while striking out 15 in eleven frames.
Philadelphia could easily win this if they happen to score and shut out the Braves. If I sound like an angry Phillies fan, it’s because I am…
