The Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins face off on Sunday in Atlanta as they close out their weekend series.
The Atlanta Braves have been red hot but they cooled off a bit as they lost to the Marlins on Saturday. Freddie Freeman, Evan Gattis, and Andrelton Simmons each had hits as the Braves failed to score a run on three hits. Starting pitcher Alex Wood allowed two hits and struck out seven over six innings to not get a decision as Jordan Walden took the loss to fall to 4-2 on the year. For Sunday’s game the Braves start Mike Minor who has won three of his last four decisions. For the season Minor has allowed 125 hits and 51 earned runs while striking out 137 over 150 innings for a 11-5 record and a 2.76 ERA.

The Miami Marlins haven’t had much to cheer about this year but on Saturday they played well nough to beat the first place Braves. Christina Yelich, Adeiny Hechavarria, and Jeff Mathis all had hits as the Braves scored one run on three hits in all. Starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi allowed just one hit while striking out eight over 7.0 innings but he didn’t get the decision as Mike Dunn got the win to go to 3-3 on the year and Steve Cishek earned his 24th save. For Sunday’s game the Marlins start Henderson Alvarez who has won his last two decisions. For the season Alvarez has allowed 41 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 23 over 45 innings for a 2-1 record and a 2.80 ERA.
Atlanta is 21-8 in their last 29 games, 49-18 in their last 67 home games, and 7-2 in Minor’s last nine home starts. Miami is 15-42 in game three of a series, 1-6 in their last seven games as an underdog, and 1-4 in Alvarez’s last five starts as an underdog. Miami is 4-9 in their last 13 games in Atlanta.
The Marlins are a huge dog here for good reason but this looks like a logical spot of you are willing to take a chance to get a big payoff on big odds.
