Colorado Rockies vs. San Diego Padres Free Pick - 8/12/13

The San Diego Padres head to Coors Field to battle the Colorado Rockies on Monday.
The Padres bid to take a step towards the .500 mark at the expense of the playoff hopeful Reds took a step in the wrong direction in a 3-2, 13 inning defeat on Sunday. San Diego has had issues scoring runs and that proved to be their downfall which squandered a solid performance on the mound. Ian Kennedy looked like the former ace of Arizona with two runs given up on three hits and a pair of free passes in eight innings before Tim Stauffer lost it in the 13th on a sacrifice fly. The Padres had their share of runners on 13 hits and six BB, but scored on an error and sacrifice fly. San Diego hands the ball to Edinson Volquez to open the series with the Rockies. Volquez is riding back to back quality starts in which he allowed four runs on ten hits and seven walks in 12.1 innings.
I am of the belief that it’s time for the Rockies to go on a very long hot streak or it might be too late. Colorado has their work cut out for them with the Dodgers taking ownership of the National League West. The Rockies are trying to get going in the right direction with three wins in a item after knocking off the visiting Pirates 3-2 by leaving the bases loaded with Pirates in the 9th. Chad Bettis held the Buccos to a pair of runs on four hits and two bases on balls through six innings pitched while three relievers put up zeros. The Rockies totaled six hits and walked four times with Nolan Arenado doubling in a run, with a sacrifice fly and error plating two more runs. Jhoulys Chacin shoots for win number eleven on Monday against the visiting Padres. Chacin has been rock solid for Colorado with quality starts in nine of ten outings in which he has gone 6-3 with a no decision.
Colorado has to keep winning or their season could go down the tubes, but a spunky San Diego should provide a challenge. I’m taking the home team with the edge on the mound…
