Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers Free Pick - 8/12/13
2013-08-12 01:10:00 EDT
The Texas Rangers are one more victory away Monday from winning all four at the Houston Astros thanks to beating Houston 6-1 Sunday.
The Astros got a strong game from Dallas Keuchel (5-7, 4.97 ERA), but couldn’t figure out Martin Perez (5-3, 3.44 ERA). By the time Chris Carter homered for Houston during the ninth inning the game was over. Geovany Soto and Alex Rios both doubled in runs during the top of the fifth and sixth. Texas muscled in four more runs during the ninth due to Jurickson Profar’s and Leonys Martin’s singles. The Rangers benefited from two Astros errors as well as twice as many hits, 8-4.
Yu Darvish (11-5, 2.72 ERA) delivers next for Texas who is just 4-5 when he does his job on the road. Darvish is 4-2 however in away appearances incuding 2-0 at Houston winning 7-0 and 8-7 allowing three runs during 15.2 innings. The Astros however signed in five runs during six frames July 6 at Rangers Ballpark to beat Darvish 9-5.
Against Darvish Houston is 12-of-76 with seven RBIs, three of them Matt Dominguez’s. Darvish also toppled the Los Angeles Angels twice on the road yielding three runs during 13 innings. In Darvish’s couple of away losses he bled for one and three runs during six frames apiece at the Cleveland Indians and Seattle Mariners. Texas was outscored 4-1.

The Astros hand the baseball to Brett Oberholtzer (2-0, 2.53 ERA). Houston has won Oberholtzer’s last two offerings ater starting out 0-3 when he made it out to the mound.
At Rangers Park July 5 Oberholtzer gave up one run during 3.1 innings of a 10-5 Astros defeat. Texas is 3-of-13 with a Martin RBI versus Oberholtzer. At the Baltimore Orioles and against the Boston Red Sox Oberholtzer tossed seven scoreless frames to win 11-0 and 2-0. Houston plays spoiler and I don’t see much other choice than playing the Astros.
