The Miami Marlins visit the Kansas City Royals in an Interleague series Monday night.
Miami lost a rubber match at the Atlanta Braves 9-4 on Sunday despite leading 3-0 and being all tied at four after six innings. Jake Marisnick’s RBI-single and Henderson Alavarez’s (2-1, 3.18 ERA) RBI-double drove in the first three Marlins of the game during the top of the second. Ed Lucas’ sacrifice fly four frames later tied things.
KC conversely won three of four at home versus the Boston Red Sox. The Royals triumphed 4-3 in the series finale thanks to four straight runs during the first three innings after Boston went ahead 1-0. Kansas City scored via Alex Gordon, Jarrod Dyson and David Lough RBI-singles along with Gordon’s home run.
The Royals return with Wade Davis (5-9, 5.42 ERA). At Kauffman Stadium this year Davis has struggled going 1-5 only winning April 10 against the Minnesota Twins with five scoreless frames.
In Davis home defeats the Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Angels, New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics rolled in 25 runs, 23 earned, during 25.2 innings. Miami is 6-of-33 with two Placido Polanco RBIs versus Davis.
The Marlins come back with Tom Koehler (3-7, 4.40 ERA) who hasn’t lost to anyone other than the Pittsburgh Pirates after starting the season 0-5. Koehler’s first victory came July 22 at the Colorado Rockies 3-1 yielding a run during seven frames. In other away appearances resulting in defeats Koehler conceded 10 runs, nine earned, during 15 innings. KC wins, but probably hold back on laying the run.
