The Boston Red Sox eye a four-game split Sunday at the Kansas City Royals.
Boston bounced back from 5-1 and 9-6 losses on Saturday with a 5-3 win. The Sox outhit KC 12-10. Boston scored four times during the fourth inning. Stephen Drew, Will Middlebrooks and Jacoby Elsbury picked up RBIs. The Royals struck thrice a frame ater via Eric Hosmer's double, Billy Butler's double and Miguel Tejada's single. The Red Sox got another RBI-double from Ellsbury during the top of the sixth.

John Lackey (7-9, 3.21 ERA) tries to snap a three-game losing streak in the series finale with Kansas City. Two of the three defeats came on the road with Lackey allowing seven runs during 12.1 innings at the Baltimore Orioles and Houston Astros. Boston was shutout both affairs and was also blanked at the Los Angeles Angels and Toronto Blue Jays when Lackey ran out to the hill.
Lackey also fell three times in May away appearances yielding 11 runs during 17 frames at the Philadelphia Phillies, Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers. In three Lackey road victories Baltimore, the Minnesota Twins and Oakland Athletics were limited to five runs, four earned, during 20 innings. The Royals are 27-of-86 with 11 RBIs, six of them Miguel Tejada's, against Lackey.
KC returns with James Shields (6-8, 3.36 ERA) on Sunday. Shields was mauled by Minnesota Aug. 6 at Kauffman Stadium in his last outing 7-0. Shields surrendered seven runs during six frames. Also at Kauffman Shields has fallen to the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals and Toronto Blue Jays giving up 15 runs, 14 earned, during 30 innings.
Shields has only beaten TB at home letting in two runs during seven frames. The Royals fell 4-3 to the Sox April 20 in Boston despite Shields yielding a run during six innings. Versus Shields the Red Sox are 59-of-217 with 32 RBIs, half David Ortiz's. Kansas City continues to sizzle.
