The rising New York Mets play the surging Los Angeles Dodgers Monday in what has the makings of a great series.
NY helped LA out in the National League West by taking two of three over the weekend at the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Mets waxed Arizona 9-5 on Sunday. The first three runs came home via a D-Backs error. Anthony Recker made it 4-0 New York after the top of the first with a double. Omar Quintallia’s RBI-single two frames later put the Mets up 5-1. Andrew Bitemn and Wilmer Flores went deep later for the final damage inflicted by NY.
The Dodgers destroyed the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday Night Baseball 8-2. Los Angeles scored the game’s first six runs via Clayton Kershaw’s (11-7, 1.88 ERA) single, Mark Ellis’ double, A.J. Ellis’ sacirifice fly and Adrian Gonzalez’s double. The Dodgers added two more runs during the bottom of the sixth on M. Ellis’ home run.
Ricky Nolasco (8-9, 3.65 ERA) is LA’s next ace. Nolasco is 3-1 with the Dodgers after being with the Miami Marlins. Los Angeles is 5-1 however when Nolasco takes the baseball for them winning twice on the road in his no-decisions.

Nolasco’s just gone once at Dodger Stadium falling 3-1 to the Colorado Rockies July 14 conceding three runs during five innings. At the Mets April 6 Nolaso got a no-decision going 5.1 frames of three-run baseball in a 7-3 Miami defeat. New York is 52-of-177 with 25 RBIs, 17 alone from David Wright, versus Nolasco.
The Mets turn to Jenrry Mejia (1-1, 1.96 ERA). Mejia is 1-1 on the road. Mejia wowed the Washington Nationals for seven scoreless innings in an 11-0 victory and fell 3-2 to the Marlins allowing three runs during six frames.
NY beat Colorado 3-2 in Mejia’s last start at Citi Field. LA is 1-of-7 with a Hanley Ramirez RBI against Mejia. Call me crazy, but I think the Mets are a play worth making Monday.
