The Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers face off on Tuesday at US Cellular Field in an AL Central battle.
The Chicago White Sox haven’t had much to cheer about this season but they got a big win on Monday knocking off the Tigers. Gordon Beckham and Jeff Keppinger each had three hits and Jordan Danks and Josh Phlegy each had two hits as the White Sox scored six runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Chris Sale allowed nine hits and two earned runs while striking out six over 9.0 innings to get the win and go to 8-11 on the season. For Tuesday’s game the White Sox start Hector Santiago who has lost his last two decisions. For the season Santiago has allowed 93 hits and 43 earned runs while striking out 116 over 112.2 innings for a 3-7 record and a 3.43 ERA.

The Detroit Tigers are leading the AL Central but they took one on the chin on Tuesday in Chicago. Miguel Cabrera had two hits including a his 37th home run and Victor Martinez and Matt Tuiasosopo each had two hits as the Tigers scored two runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Doug Fister allowed eight hits and four runs over six innings to take the loss and fall to 10-6 on the year. For Tuesday’s game the Tigers start Max Scherzer who is the leading candidate to win the Cy Young Award in the American League. For the season Scherzer has allowed 108 hits and 50 earned runs while striking out 175 over 158.1 innings for a 17-1 record and a 2.84 ERA.
Chicago is 21-48 in their last 69 games overall, 5-10 in their last 15 games against a team with a winning record, and 1-7 in Santiago’s last eight starts. Detroit is 24-9 in their last 33 games as a favorite, 9-4 in their last 13 road games, and 11-1 in Scherzer’s last 12 road starts against a team with a losing record. Detroit is 38-15 in their last 53 games against the White Sox.
I don’t love this one but if you need to play it going against the Scherzer this year hasn’t been profitable.
