2013-08-14 06:05:00 EDT
The Washington Nationals and the San Francisco Giants meet on Wednesday in Washington as they continue their series.
The Washington Nationals sat out a rain delay but it was worth the wait for them as they knocked off the Giants. Ian Desmond had three hits, Ian Desmond had two hits including a home run, and Jayson Werth had a hit as the Nats scored four runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez allowed four hits and struck out two but the delay ended his night after four scoreless innings for a no decision as Tanner Roark got the win to go to 2-0 on the year and Rafael Soriano earned his 30th save. For Wednesday’s game Washington starts Jordan Zimmerman who has a no decision in his last out despite allowing just two runs. For the season Zimmerman has allowed 135 hits and 52 earned runs while striking out 114 over 151 innings for a 13-6 record and a 3.10 ERA.
The San Francisco Giants are having a tough go of it and Tuesday’s game didn’t help improve things. Joaquin Arias had four hits and Brandon Belt, Buster Posey, and Hunter Pence all had hits as the Giants scored two runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner allowed five hits and a run while striking out four over 4.0 innings to not get a decision as he didn’t return to the game after the rain and Guillermo Moscoso took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the year. For Wednesday’s game the Giants start Tim Lincecum who has a no hitter this season and who allowed just one hit in 8.0 innings in his last start. For the season Lincecum has allowed 127 hits and 66 earned runs while striking out 150 over 142 innings for a 6-11 record and a 4.18 ERA.
Washington is 2-5 in their last seven games against a right-handed starter, 9-1 in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record, and 19-7 in Zimmerman’s last 26 home starts. San Francisco is 14-30 in their last 44 games, 7-21 in their last 28 games as a road underdog, and 2-9 in Lincecum’s last 11 starts. San Francisco is 0-6 in their last six games in Washington.
Once again I expect very little scoring and my first free pick here is the under. I also have a FREE PICK on the winning side and I will give out FREE PICK on Wednesday’s 1stQuarter Podcast.
