The Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves take the field in a NL East tilt on Wednesday.
The Phillies shot at challenging in the National League East has been in the past for quite awhile. The next best thing would be beating the hated Braves but that didn't happen in a 3-1 defeat on Tuesday. Rookie right hander Ethan Martin dropped his second decision to Atlanta with all three runs allowed on six hits and two free passes over five frames. The pen kept the scoreboard under control but the offense couldn't get going with six hits and a single walk that saw Dom Brown smack a run scoring single in the 6th that plated Chase Utley. Left hander John Lannan faces the division rival Braves Wednesday. Lannan has to bounce back from a 9-2 loss to Washington in which he gave up eight runs on nine hits and five walks over five innings.

I guess the big news for Atlanta is the white hot National League East leaders lost twice this week. Other than that, it's been been business as usual for the Braves who put another game in the win column Tuesday behind a few clutch hits and strong work on mound from Kris Medlen. Medlen gave up the lone run on five hits and a single base on balls through seven frames. The bats made that a winning performance on their eight hit, three walk attack that saw Chris Johnson club a two run homer and Medlen smack a run scoring double. Brandon Beachy makes his 4th start of 2013 since coming off the disabled list following Tommy John Surgery. Beachy is coming in off of a 5-0 gem versus Miami in which he allowed three hits over eight scoreless frames.
I wouldn't write Philadelphia off for two reasons; Lannan has fared well versus Atlanta and Beachy has had very limited opportunities. Still going with the Braves and hoping I'm wrong...
