The Boston Red Sox look to extend their lead in the East with a win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
As the top dog in the American League East, Boston had dropped three of four heading in to Tuesday's bout at the Rogers Centre. Losing streaks at this point in the season are scary in such a competitive division so a 4-2, eleven inning victory was a welcome sight. The bats struggled throughout but Ryan Dempster kept the Red Sox alive with a single run allowed on four hits and a pair of free pass in seven innings pitched. The offense smacked out ten hits and walked four times with Shane Victorino slapping a two run single in the top of the 11th for the winning margin. Jon Lester toes the rubber versus the rival Blue Jays Wednesday as he looks for more help from his bats and pen. Lester was tagged with a 5-1 loss to Kansas City with three runs allowed (one earned) on five hits overseven frames.

Toronto either has to go on a record setting hot streak and get a ton of help from somewhere or they are looking towards 2014. I'm leaning to the latter after Tuesday's defeat left the Jays with losses in five of six and entrenched at the bottom of the American League East. Things just seem to go wrong for this team who received 5.1 scoreless innings from Todd Redmond before Sergio Santos gave up two in 2/3 of an inning and Aaron Loup lost it with two allowed in the 11th. The offense failed to provide much support on six hits and three free passes that saw JP Arencibia homer and single in a run. The Blue Jays are scheduled to send youngster Thad Weber to the mound Wednesday. Weber has recorded seven relief appearances between San Diego and Toronto, with a 2.08 ERA in just 13 innings. (Josh Johnson Is questionable)
Who knows what we'll get from Weber who could toss a gem or get bombed. My thinking is Boston at a cheap price is worth a shot but check to see who is pitching for Toronto...
