The Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins square off in an AL Central battle.
Even though the White Sox are not even within sniffing range of the American League Central crown, they gave Detroit every thing they could handle in taking the first two games of their series before falling by a 6-4 count on Wednesday. The pitching and hitting simply ran out of gas against the division leaders after taking a 3-0 first inning lead before going silent the rest of the way. John Danks took the loss with six runs allowed ( four earned) on nine hits and a walk in 7.1 frames. The offense pounded out 14 hits and walked five times that saw four players drive in runs. Rookie Andre Rienzo makes his 4th career start and second straight versus Minnesota Thursday. Rienzo did not figure in the decision of a 5-4 victory over the Twins where he gave up four runs on on seven hits in 5.1 frames.

Minnesota was in the perfect position to play spoiler versus the playoff hopeful Indians but the work on the mound didn't support an explosive showing by the offense in a 9-8, 12 inning loss on Wednesday. Starter Kyle Gibson was in trouble from the beginning with three runs plated on six hits and a trio of base on balls through 5.1 innings pitched while Casey Fien gave up four more. Ryan Pressly absorbed the loss with a run given up in the 12th which squandered a 17 hit, three walk attack. Joe Mauer paced the offense with a five hit afternoon, including a home run and four runs knocked in. Mike Pelfrey toes the rubber for the second straight time verssus the division rival White Sox. Pelfrey absorbed a 5-4 defeat with five runs plated (four earned) om four hits and five BB over five innings.
Minnesota has generally owned this match up although Rienzo and Chicago won against Pelfrey the last time these teams met. I get the feeling the Twins get some revenge here but I would rather pass this by or play the White Sox small to avoid rather high juice...
