Who would have thunk it? The Houston Astros are a win away from sweeping the Oakland Athletics. On Wednesday Houston outlasted Oakland 2-1 during 11 innings.
The Astros struck first off of Chris Carter's home run during the top of the seventh. During the home-half however the A's evened things up on Brandon Moss' RBI-double. Chris Corporan's double scoring Jose Altuve won it for Houston.

Oakland got 8.1 frames from Jarrod Parker (8-6, 3.87). The Astros were 0-of-3 with Runners In Scoring Position. The A's were an even more pathetic 0-of-9.
The next visiting ace Erik Bedard (3-8, 4.28 ERA) has been winless since June 26. Throwing against Oakland Thursday isn't the recipe for a win already having lost 11-2 at O.co Coliseum April 15 and being part of a 6-5 Houston loss May 24. Bedard bled for six and two runs during 0.1 and five innings. Versus Bedard the A's are 9-of-48 with seven RBIs, three Nate Freiman's and two Moss'.
Bedard was 0-5 in July including tumbling at the Tampa Bay Rays, Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays conceding nine runs, seven earned, during 16.1 frames. Bedard also fell at the Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals yielding 11 runs during 7.2 innings. Bedard's only away win came at the Los Angeles Angels June 3 gvving up a run during seven frames.
Oakland returns with Sonny Gray (0-1, 1.80 ERA). At first glance you may feel compelled to give the Astros the advantage. However, wait a second. Although the A's have just nine hits on Bedard, Oakland has seven RBIs against him. And while Oakland is 0-3 with Gray going from the mound none of the starts came at O.co.
In the Athletics' most recent game they fell 5-4 at the Toronto Blue Jays. Gray gave up four runs during six innings. In two brief two-frame appearances in July Gray did not allow a run. I don't know if Gray gets the win, but I'm not going to chance Houston with Bedard and the Astros seeming to be hexed despite the strangeness of the first two days.
