The struggling New York Mets and San Diego Padres try to string together a win on Thursday after Wednesday defeats.
SD was beaten 4-2 at the Colorado Rockies in the rubber match. The Padres laced in runs during hird and fourth off of Chris Denorfia’s and Juan Guzman’s singles. Andrew Cashner (8-7, 3.89 ERA) gave San Diego a chance at victory giving up three runs during seven frames, but the Padres finished 3-of-7 with only two RBIs with Runners In Scoring Position.
NY’s loss felt even worse ending during 12 innings at the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4. The Mets led 4-0 after two frames due to Andrew Bitemn’s RBI-double and Marlon Byrd’s home run. New York however gave up two runs each during the sixth and ninth. The Mets wasted a pretty good effort by Dillon Gee (8-8, 3.79 ERA). NY ended up with two more hits, 14-12.
Tyson Ross (3-5, 2.75 ERA) seeks his fourth win in last five starts on Thursday. Ross’ lone loss however came at Petco Park to the New York Yankees 3-0. Ross concededed two runs during six innings to NY. In Ross’ last three victories all in away games he surrendered two runs during 21 frames. The Mets however have only seen Ross twice with Byrd and Eric Young Jr. each going 0-of-1 in the batter’s box.
New York goes with hot hand Zack Wheeler (5-2, 3.63 ERA) who the Mets are 7-3 with on the mound. Wheeler is 4-0 on the road too conceding five runs, three earned, during 24.1 frames. NY split Wheeler’s two away no-decisions.

The Mets were edged 5-4 at the Chicago White Sox. Wheeler let in four runs during 5.1 innings. At the Miami Marlins Wheeler allowed two runs during seven frames. New York won 4-2. SD has their work cut out for them.
