The Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox close out their series on Thursday in Toronto,
The Toronto Blue Jays haven’t had the season they were looking for but they had reason to cheer on Wednesday as they beat the Red Sox. Rajai Davis had three hits, Edwin ENcarnacion had two hits, and Brett Lawrie added a hit as the Blue Jays scored four runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Esmil Rogers allowed five hits and a run while striking out six to not factor in the decision as Brett Cecil blew the save and Brad Lincoln got the win to go to 1-1 on the season. For Thursday’s game the Blue Jays start Mark Buehrle who has won his last three decisions. For the season Buehrle has allowed 160 hits and 74 earned runs while striking out 102 over 150.1 innings for a 8-7 record and a 4.43 ERA.

The Boston Red Sox lead the AL East but the lead shrunk by a game on Thursday. David Ortiz and Mike Napoli hit home runs and Jarrod Saltalamacchia had two hits as the Red Sox scored three runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Jon Lester allowed six hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out three over 6.1 innings to get a no decision as Brandon Workman took the loss to fall to 3-2 on the season. For Thursday’s game the Red Sox start Jake Peavy who makes his third start since being traded to Boston. Since the trade Peavy has allowed 14 hits and eight earned runs while striking out seven over 12 innings for a 1-0 record and a 6.00 ERA.
Toronto is 8-15 in their last 23 games as an underdog, 2-4 in their last six home games, and 4-0 in Buehrle’s last four starts. Boston is 5-0 in their last five game three of a series, 39-15 as a favorite, and 1-4 in their last five road games against a left-handed starter. Boston is 4-2 in the last six meetings of these two.
These two pitchers know one another well from their days in Chicago together but expect a spirited completion here and for this one to come in under the total. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that winning pick in the Premium Area.
