The Baltimore Orioles and the Colorado Rockies face off on Friday at Camden Yards for game one of their interleague series.
The Baltimore Orioles are on the outside looking in at the post season and while they are far from out of it, they can’t afford too many more bad losses. The Orioles are 4-6 in their last 10 games, 33-25 at home this season, and they are six games back in the AL East and 2.5 games out from the second Wildcard spot in the American League. As a team the Orioles are hitting .265 with Chris Davis hitting .300, Adam Jones hitting .296, and Manny Machado hitting .295. The Orioles pitching staff has an ERA of 4.27 with the starters at 4.59 and the bullpen at 3.69. For game one against the Rockies, the Orioles start Wei-Yin Chen, who has lost both of his last two starts. For the season, Chen has allowed 80 hits and 30 earned runs, while striking out 53 over 8.1 innings for a 6-5 record and a 3.06 ERA.

The Colorado Rockies have faded in the National League West and it would take a near miracle to get them to the post season. The Rockies are 5-5 in their last 10 games, 21-38 on the road this season, ad they are 14 games back in the NL West. As a team the Rockies are hitting .264 with Michael Cuddyer hitting .324, Troy Tulowitzki hitting .305, and Dexter Fowler hitting .268. The Rockies pitching staff has a 4.24 ERA with the starters at 4.42 and the bullpen at 3.92. For game one at Baltimore, the Rockies start Juan Nicasio, who has lost his last two decisions. For the season, Nicasio has allowed 119 hits and 64 earned runs, while striking out 83 over 114.1 innings for a 6-6 record and a 5.04 ERA.
Baltimore is 4-1 in their last five games against a team with a losing record, 11-4 in their last 15 interleague home games, and 5-1 in Chen’s last six home starts. Colorado is 5-1 in their last six games, 24-53 in their last 77 road games, and 1-4 in Nicasio’s last five road starts.
This is a big number, considering Chen hasn’t won of late, but it’s still the best option here.
