Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Free Pick - 8/17/13

The Boston Red Sox look to down the New York Yankees at Fenway Park Saturday.
The Yankees have probably become an after thought in the American League East but I’m not so sure this team can be written off as of yet. The Bronx Bombers might still have some life after an 10-3 victory over Boston was number five of six. The offense has been getting their feet under them and with a solid effort on the mound from veteran Andy Pettitte, it was the perfect storm. Pettitte gave up three unearned runs on six hits and a free pass in 6.2 frames to get the win. The bats pounded away for 15 hits and walked four times with Alfonso Soriano and Mark Reynolds going deep and driving in seven runs. The Yankees turn to Hiroki Kuroda in game number two against Boston. Kuroda has been the Yanks best hurler with quality starts in nine of ten outings in which he has gone 5-3 with three no decisions.
First place Boston is living on the edge in the American League East as losers in seven of eleven following Friday’s defeat to the suddenly hot Yankees. The Red Sox bats haven’t been pounding the ball as of late and they didn’t get the job done on the mound either on Friday. Starter Felix Doubront gave up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and a pair of bases on balls through only four innings. The Red Sox attack produced ten hits and walked just once, with Dustin Pedroia and Stephen Drew driving in a pair of runs each. John Lackey will be on the mound Saturday to face the Yankees. Lackey has some highs and lows since a hot start and is coming in off of a 4-3 loss at Kansas City in which he gave up all four runs on seven hits and two BB in seven frames.
I like the way both hurlers have performed for the majority of the season. If I were to bet this I would put something on the visitors…
