The Detroit Tigers look to solidify their grip on the AL Central with a win over the Kansas City Royals.
The bottom line for third place Kansas City heading in to Detroit was a bad showing likely would end their hopes of winning the American League Central. A loss to the Tigers Thursday was number three in a item but the Royals came up big by taking a twin bill Friday. The Royals won game one 2-1 and finished the night with a 3-0 victory behind James Shields. The Royals certainly didn’t knock the cover off the ball but stopped the Tigers from doing the same and that was the difference. So now KC is in position to do some huge damage with two more games left in the series. The Royals send Wade Davis to the bump to tame the heavy hitting Tigers Saturday. Davis might get it if he can duplicate his 6-2 victory over Miami in which he allowed both runs on six hits and two walks over six innings.
Despite dropping a doubleheader to Kansas City Friday, the Tigers remain in control of the American League Central. The problem with losing the twin bill wasn’t the defeats in themselves, it was a lost opportunity to really put the squeeze on the Royals and possibly eliminate them from the division race. The Tigers have a solid combination of hitting and pitching but they are really at their best when hitting and scoring, but getting out scored 5-1 in a doubleheader really didn’t give their arms any thing to work with and squandered a pair of solid performances. Doug Fister toes the rubber against visiting Kansas City on Saturday. Fister shoots to rebound from a 6-2 road loss to the White Sox in which he allowed four runs on eight hits and three walks over six innings.
Davis will thitem that gem but Fister is more consistent although something in me doesn’t trust him. I’ll back him and hope the offense rediscovers their stroke…
