The Pittsburgh Pirates look to go on another hot run with the Arizona Diamondbacks in town.
Arizona has the dubious distinction of sharing the National League West with the Dodgers who simply refuse to lose. The Diamondbacks are in chase mode and have been playing well as winners in six of eight after sweeping a pretty good Baltimore club. The Diamondbacks out lasted the Orioles 5-4 in 14 innings Wednesday for their third consecutive walk off victory against the Birds. The Snakes received eleven hits and walked seven times with Aaron Hill singling in the tying run in the 9th while also rapping the game winning hit in the 14th. That got lefty Patrick Corbin off the hook, after he gave up all four runs on nine hits and a BB in seven innings. Brandon McCarthy toes the rubber in game one of their series at PNC Park. McCarthy dropped a 4-1 decision to the Mets but gave up only two runs on six hits and a free pass through seven innings pitched.

Pittsburgh has been in a position we haven't for years; first place in the National League Central this late in the season. Having said that, the Buccos won't stay there much longer if they don't snap out of their week long slide that has seen them drop five of six following Thursday's 6-5 loss to the Cardinals in 12 innings. The good news was a struggling offense scored some runs but the pitching didn't hold up with AJ Burnett getting tagged for five runs on eight hits and a free pass over just 4.1 frames before Bryan Morris gave up the winning run in the 12th. The bats racked up 13 hits and walked three times with Russell Martin leaving the yard, while Clint Barmes connected on a two run shot. Rookie Gerrit Cole shoots for a win when he squares off with the Diamondbacks Friday. Cole has not been great the past two times out with seven runs scored on nine hits and three BB in 10.1 innings.
Cole has cooled off and McCarthy is an unknown at the moment which makes it a difficult game to bet on. Arizona is the better team at the moment so perhaps they can steal one here at a decent price...
