The Washington Nationals were thinking they were going to be a contender and they were reminded once again on Friday that they aren’t. On Friday Jayson Werth and Anthony Rendon had two hits each and Ryan Zimmerman and Bryce Harper each had hits as the Nationals scored two runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Taylor Jordan allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out three over 6.0 innings for a no decision as Ian Krol took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the year. For Saturday’s game the Nationals start Stephen Strasburg who won last time out to end a three decision losing streak. For the season Strasburg has allowed 109 hits and 46 earned runs while striking out 153 over 146.1 innings for a 6-9 record and a 2.83 ERA.
Atlanta is 21-6 in their last 27 games overall, 50-21 against the NL East, and 20-7 in Minor’s last 27 starts. Washington is 5-2 in their last seven games overall, 7-20 as a road underdog, and 1-5 in Strasburg’s last sox starts. Washington is 3-8 in their last 11 meetings in Atlanta.
The total in this one is set to the low side but it has the makings of a low scoring quick moving game and my free pick is on the under. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that strong pick in the Premium Area.
