Baltimore Orioles vs. Colorado Rockies Free Pick - 8/18/13

The surging Colorado Rockies shoot for another win over the Baltimore Orioles.
It appears that Colorado is on the outside looking in at the National League West citemn with the Dodgers just piling up the wins. The Rockies need to go on some prolonged hot streaks and even if they do, I’m not sure if that would make a difference. Colorado had won six of seven before getting pounded 8-4 at Baltimore on Saturday. Starter Chad Bettis was hit hard early and often with eight runs plated although just two were earned on seven hits and four BB over 2.2 frames. The bats pounded out 12 hits and walked four times with Dexter Fowler rapping a pair of RBI singles. A red hot Jhoulys Chacin looks to end the series at Camden Yards with a win. Chacin has posted quality starts in nine of his last ten appearances in which he has gone 6-3 with a no decision.
Baltimore is sitting in the third spot in the National League East and a four game slide dropped them further back from the top. The Orioles have to get back on the winning track and soon or they will quickly become an after thought in the division. The Birds took a step in the right direction after Saturday’s victory that finally saw the bats and arms on the same page. Bud Norris wasn’t great with all four runs plated on nine hits and three free passes but the pen was with 3.1 scoreless innings. The bats totaled ten hits and walked eight times with Manny Machado and Brian Roberts each knocking in a pair of runs. Scott Feldman toes the rubber Sunday against Colorado on Sunday. Feldman didn’t receive a decision in a 7-6 defeat at Arizona in which he allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and two BB in 5.1 frames.
Baltimore is a very dangerous team with their high powered offense able to score in bunches. If Colorado is to steal this one, Chacin has to be at the top of his game or they have no shot and I like the price on them…
