The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Arizona Diamondbacks face off on Saturday for game two of their series at PNC Park.
The Pittsburgh Pirates added to their lead in the NL Central on Friday with a win while the Cardinals were losing in Chicago. Jose Tabata hit a home run and Starling Marte and Andrew McCutchen each had two hits as the Pirates scored six runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Gerit Cole allowed five hits and two runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings to get the win to go to 6-5 on the season. For Saturday’s game the Pirates start Jeff Locke who hasn’t had a decision in his last three starts. For the season Locke has allowed 107 hits and 37 earned runs while striking out 101 over 137 innings for a 9-3 record and a 2.43 ERA.

The Arizona Diamondbacks looked to be locked in a battle with the Pirates on Friday but they just didn’t have enough to keep it close as they dropped game one of the series. Martin Prado had two hits and Aaron Hill, Wil Nieves, and A.J. Pollock each had hits as the Diamondbacks scored two runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out five over 5.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 2-7 on the season. For Saturday’s game the Diamondbacks start Trevor Cahill who has lost his last six decisions. For the season Cahill has allowed 97 hits and 50 earned runs while striking out 69 over 96.2 innings for a 3-10 record and a 4.66 ERA.
Pittsburgh is 37-16 in their last 53 home games, 23-6 as a home favorite, and 7-1 in Locke’s last eight home starts. Arizona is 6-3 in their last nine games, 6-17 in their last 23 road games, and 1-5 in Cahill’s last six starts. Arizona is 3-8 in their last 11 games in Pittsburgh.
