The New York Mets seek their third consecutive victory on Saturday at the San Diego Padres.
NY thrashed SD 5-2 Friday evening scoring all of their runs between the second and fourth inning. The Mets only outhit the Padres 12-9. An erratic Ian Kennedy (4-9, 5.12 ERA) though gave up five runs during 4.2 frames. New York scored four of those runs off of Marlon Byrd, Ian Davis and David Murphy home runs.

Eric Young's groundout during the top of the second got the Mets on the scoreboard initially. San Diego meanwhile scored twice via Will Venable's HR and Yonder Alonso's RBI-single. The Padres though were a rough 1-of-12 with Runners In Scoring Position. Venable was 0-of-2 in such opportunities.
Edinson Volquez (8-10, 5.80 ERA) gets the assignment Saturday for SD at Petco Park where he's 3-7 this year. It pains me to say this because Volquez is one of my favorite pitchers, but his stuff has been lacking especially at home. Volquez's last Petco appearance was strong yet he fell 4-2 to the Baltimore Orioles allowing two runs during six innings. On July 13 Volquez was rammed 9-0 by the San Francisco Giants. Volquez gave up eigt runs during five frames.
In five other Petco Park losses Volquez has yielded 26 runs, 22 earned, during 25.1 innings. At NY April 1 Volquez was defeated 11-2 conceding six runs during three frames. The Mets are 19-of-73 with 10 RBIs, a pair apece Mike Baxter's, Ruben Tejada's and Jordany Valdespin's, versus Volquez.
New York comes back with Jenrry Mejia (1-2, 2.22 ERA). The Mets are 2-2 when Mejia pitches on the mound tumbling in two of his three road appearances. In fact all of Mejia's decisions have come in away fashion. Mejia fell 4-2 and 3-2 at the Los Angeles Dodgers and Miami Marlins conceding six runs, five earned, during 12 innings.
On July 26 Mejia tossed seven brilliant frames to beat the Washington Nationals 11-0. In 2010 the Padres didn't score once during two innings against Mejia. San Diego went down 18-6 at Petco and 4-2 at Citi Field in those two brief Mejia relief roles. The Padres are 2-of-6 without an RBI versus Mejia. Cameron Maybin is 2-of-3.
