The Atlanta Braves and the Washington Nationals face off on Sunday afternoon after playing a marathon on Saturday Night.
The Atlanta Braves fought back on Saturday to get the game with the Nats into extra innings but in the end that wasn’t enough as they took a rare loss. Jason Heyward hit two home runs and Freddie Freeman and Brian McCann each homered as the Braves scored seven runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Mike Minor lasted just 1.2 innings allowing four hits and four runs it it was Kris Medlen who took the loss to fall to 10-11 on the year. For Sunday’s game the Braves start Julio Teheran who lost last tie out to end a personal two game winning streak. For the season Teheran has allowed 137 hits and 49 earned runs while striking out 127 over 143 innings for a 9-6 record and a 3.08 ERA.

The Washington Nationals shrugged off adversity on Saturday as they battled to beat the Braves in Atlanta. Adam LaRoche and Ryan Zimmerman homered for Washington while Denard Span and Wilson Ramos had three hits each as the Nationals scored eight runs on 17 hits. Startingppitcher Stephen Strasburg didn’t last long with three wild pitches in the first inning along with two hits and two runs before being run as Craig Stammen was the eventual winner and Dan Haren came on and earned his first save. For Sunday’s game the Nationals start Gio Gonzalez who has lost his last two decisions. For the season Gonzalez has allowed 123 hits and 55 earned runs while striking out 146 over 14.2 innings for a 7-5 record and a 3.42 ERA.
Atlanta is 7-0 in their last three game seven of a series, 20-6 in their last 26 games, and 4-1 in Teheran’s last five starts. Washington is 4-1 following a win, 7-20 as a road underdog, and 39-19 in Gonzalez’s last 58 starts. Washington is 1-6 in the last seven meetings of these two.
Washington got the win Saturday but a win for them in Atlanta has been a rare thing so back to back wins at Turner Field is unlikely.
