Oakland Athletics vs. Seattle Mariners Free Pick - 8/19/13
2013-08-19 09:05:00 EDT
The Oakland Athletics host the Seattle Mariners in AL West action Monday evening.
A day after getting hammered 15-3 by Texas, Seattle quickly regrouped and handed the American West leading Rangers a 4-3 defeat. The Mariners problems through the years revolved around an offense that sometimes struggles to score and the bats did just enough to support a surprisingly strong effort from Erasmo Ramirez who gave up two runs (one earned)on four hits and a free pass over seven frames. The bats totaled ten hits and walked six times with four different players driving in runs and four scoring. Aaron Harang gets the ball versus the Athletics on Monday. Harang has suffered through three poor outings in which he allowed 17 runs on 19 hits and seven free passes in 12 innings pitched.
It’s Oakland and Texas battling it out for supremacy in the American League West and it was the Athletics picking up a game with the A’s winning and Texas losing. The Athletics knocked off visiting Cleveland on Sunday by a 7-3 count for victory number seven in eleven contests. Oakland has the ability to win on their pitching and hitting alone and are a tough match up when both units are clicking. We saw that Sunday with starter Tom Milone giving up all three runs (one earned) on six hits and a base on balls through 4.1 frames before four relievers shut down the Indians bats. The A’s attack consisted of 12 hits and three walks with Alberto Callaspo and Chris Young slamming home runs, while Josh Donaldson drove in three. Oakland hands the ball to Jarrod Parker for Monday’s start against the division rival Mariners. Parker has gone 2-0 with a no decision the past three times out with six runs given over 22.1 frames.
Seattle has played Oakland tough in 2013 although Parker has been thiteming the ball great for quite awhile and Harang has been struggling. Edge to the A’s but laying big chalk of late doesn’t seem to be working…
