2013-08-20 09:05:00 EDT
Almost every time the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics have hooked up this season entertainment has been at a fever pitch. Seattle hopes Tuesday to get revenge for a 2-1 loss.
Brandon Moss’ walk-off home run abruptly ended the game during the bottom of the ninth for the A’s and M’s who put on a two-hour-and-19-minute show in Oakland. Aaron Harang (5-10, 5.49 ERA) was marvelous through seven innings while Jarrod Parker (9-6, 3.71 ERA) was remarkable thiteming a complete game.
Both teams left five runners on base. Seattle was 1-of-7 with Runners In Scoring Position getting on the scoreboard via Kendrys Morales’ single during the top of the seventh. Oakland was 0-of-4. The A’s did however strike on Josh Donaldson’s fielder’s choice during the bottom of the fourth which held until the seventh frame. The M’s had two hits apiece from Morales and Michael Saunders.
Joe Saunders (10-12, 4.86 ERA) heads into Tuesday’s start a loser in four of his last five games. Saunders has surrendered at least five runs in the defeats while his one win came 3-2 at the Baltimore Orioles. Saunders was stomped on by the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays on the road for 11 runs, 10 earned, during 9.1 innings.

Saunders also gave up six runs, five earned, during 19 frames of three July away victories. At Oakland April 3 and June 14 Saunders conceded four and one run during four and seven innings to lose 6-2 and win 3-2. The A’s in Seattle were squashed 6-1 May 12 due to 6.1 one-run frames by Saunders. Oakland is 44-of-148 with a baker’s dozen of RBIs, four from Coco Crisp, versus Saunders.
The Athletics return with Sonny Gray (1-1, 1.00 ERA). Oakland is 1-3 with Gray going from the rubber. Three of Gray’s trips have been scoreless gems including eight innings at O.co Coliseum May 15 against the Houston Astros.
Gray helped the A’s to a 5-0 victory. The M’s will probably be able to score on Gray, but I doubt will conquer him especially if Saunders has a short evening.
