The Cincinnati Reds and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet on Tuesday for game two of their series in Cincinnati.
The Cincinnati Reds got off to a slow start on Monday but once they got rolling they had no problems as they stomped the Diamondbacks. Todd Frazier hit a home run, Brandon Phillips had three hits, and Joey Votto and Jay Bruce had hits as the Reds scored five runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Bronson Arroyo allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out six over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 12-9 on the year and Arolidis Chapman earned his 31st save of the year. For Tuesday’s game the Reds start Tony Cingrani who has put together a solid season. The Arizona Diamondbacks had plenty of chances on Monday but they didn’t convert on many as they took the loss in game one of the series. Aaron Hill hit a home run and Paul Goldschmidt and Martin Prado each had two hits as the Diamondbacks scored three runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Randall Delgado allowed seven hits and five runs while striking out six over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 4-4 on the season. For Tuesday’s game Arizona starts Patrick Corbin who has two losses in his last two decisions. For the season Corbin has allowed 128 hits and 45 earned runs while striking out 140 over 163.1 innings for a 12-3 record and a 2.48 ERA.
Cincinnati is 10-3 in their last 13 home games, 5-1 in their last six home games, and 9-4 in Cingrani’s last 13 starts. Arizona is 5-2 in their last seven games, 5-2 in their last seven games as an underdog, and 8-2 in Corbin’s last 10 starts. Arizona is 2-6 in the last eight meetings of these two.
We have two young guns going at it and expect a duel of the pitchers and for the score to stay under the total and that is my first free pick. My second free pick is on the winning side and I will give out that free pick on Tuesday’s 1stQuarter Podcast.
