Philadelphia Phillies vs. Colorado Rockies Free Pick - 8/21/13

The Philadelphia Phillies host the Colorado Rockies in game three of their four game set.
It appears that Colorado is up against the wall when the subject of the postseason is mentioned. The Rockies simply haven’t been consistent enough and playing in the same division as the Dodgers hasn’t helped. The Rockies snapped a three game skid in a 5-3 victory at Philadelphia on Tuesday behind solid work on the mound and an early scoring spree. Starter Jorge De La Rosa gave up up three runs (two earned) on three hits and a trio of BB to win his 13th. The bats did their damage on ten hits and a pair walks, with Troy Tulowitski slamming a two run bomb, while Wilin Rosario went solo. Colorado gives the ball to Juan Nicasio to control the Philadelphia bats on Wednesday. Nicasio is coming off of a 6-3 win at Baltimore where he gave up two runs on four hits and four BB in six frames.
The good times have been far and few between for the Phillies in 2013 and it cost skipper Charlie Manuel his job. Injuries, age and poor play have each played a part in Philadelphia’s problems with the lone positive being a few youngsters are getting a look. The Phils saw a modest two game winning streak come to an end Tuesday with neither the arms or bats able to come through. Tyler Cloyd gave up all five runs on eight hits and a base on balls through six frames while striking out six. The bats didn’t provide enough support with just three hits and four walks with Chase Utley rapping an RBI single with an error and sacrifice fly finishing off the scoring. Veteran lefty Cliff Lee toes the rubber Colorado hoping to snap a five game winless skein. Lee absorbed a 4-0 loss to the Dodgers in which he allowed three runs on five hits and a walk in eight innings.
Niscasio has struggled but so has Lee which we don’t see very often which makes laying the chalk a bit much. I’ll back the Phillies but think long and hard beforeng them…
