San Francisco Giants vs. Boston Red Sox Free Pick - 8/20/13
2013-08-20 09:15:00 EDT
The Boston Red Sox look to follow Monday’s script on Tuesday at the San Francisco Giants.
Boston bounced SF 7-0 in large part to knocking Tim Lincecum (6-13, 4.53 ERA) from the game after five frames. The Sox also scored twice via Jarrod Saltalamacchia’s double and Daniel Nava’s single on the Giants bullpen during the ninth inning. A Wes Middlebrooks sacrifice fly, Lincecum balk, Shane Victorino single, Stephen Drew double and Guillermo Moscoso (1-1, 4.08 ERA) wild pitch accounted for Boston’s first five runs.
The Red Sox got 8.1 frames from Jon Lester (11-7, 4.09 ERA) who left with two runners aboard during the ninth inning. San Francisco however couldn’t get any relief versus the bullpen as two Giants, Joaquin Arias and Hector Sanchez, struck out swinging to end the game.
Jake Peavy (9-5, 4.41 ERA) makes just his fourth start with Boston. Formerly with the Chicago White Sox Peavy was 8-4 with a 4.28 ERA with Chicago. The Sox won Peavy’s debut with the club at Fenway Park, but are 0-2 on the road when he delivers.
On Aug. 15 Peavy fell 2-1 at the Toronto Blue Jays giving up two runs during six frames. Six days earlier Peavy was attacked for six runs during five innings at the Kansas City Royals in a 9-6 Boston loss. SF is 18-of-67 with 10 RBIs, two apiece from Tony Abreu, Joaquin Arias, Jeff Francoeur and Hunter Pence, against Peavy.
The Giants go back to Ryan Vogelsong (2-4, 6.75 ERA) who hasn’t taken a decision since his comeback. On the Disabled List since May San Francisco is 1-1 in Vogelsong’s two August starts. Vogelsong’s first game back was a good one at AT&T Park allowing two runs during six frames to the Baltimore Orioles. The Giants though lost 5-2. SF did however win Aug. 15 when Vogelsong left after 3.2 three-run innings.
Vogelsong at AT&T overall is 1-2 just beating the Washington Nationals with five blank frames. The Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals smashed Vogelsong for 11 runs during 9.2 innings. All-time versus Vogelsong the Red Sox are 1-of-12 with a Mike Napoli walk. Even if Boston can’t score on Vogelsong that doesn’t necessarily mean a Giants win.
Tyrone’s 367-268 for the season in free Major League Baseball picks.
