The Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros face off on Wednesday in Arlington for game three of their AL West battle.
The Texas Rangers are looking focused and while it didn’t look pretty on Tuesday it was good enough to get the win. On Tuesday Adrian Beltre had two hits including a home run, Ian Kinsler had two hits, and Elvis Andrus and Alex Rios had hits as the Rangers scored four runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Travis Blackley allowed three hits and two earned runs while striking out two over 4.0 innings to get a no decision as Neil Cotts got the win to go to 5-2 on the season and Joe Nathan earned his 37th save. For Wednesday’s game the Rangers start Derek Holland who has three no decisions for his last four starts. For the season Holland has allowed 158 hits and 5 earned runs while striking out 157 over 168 innings fpr a 9-6 record and a 2.95 ERA.
The Houston Astros got to the lead on Tuesday but they were unable to hold on as they fell to the Rangers. Matt Dominguez hit a home run and Robbie Grossman and Max Stassi each had two hits as the Astros scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Jarred Cosart allowed four hits and three runs while striking out three over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-1 on the season. For Wednesday’s game the Astros start Erik Bedard Who has lost his last six decisions. For the season Bedard has allowed 117 hits and 60 earned while striking out 110 over 120.1 innings for a 3-9 record and a 4.49.
Texas is 6-0 against a left-handed starter, 8-3 in their last 11 home games, and 40-19 in Holland’s last 59 starts. Houston is 14-39 in their last 53 games overall, 16-48 in game three of a series, and 0-6 in Bedard’s last six road starts. Houston is 8-21 in his last 29 starts in Texas.
