The Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros face off on Tuesday in Arlington for game two of their series between the top and the bottom of the AL West.
The Texas Rangers took out the bats on Monday as they battered the Astros. A.J. Pierzynski had four hits including a home run, Leonys Martin ad three hits and Elvis Andrus had two hits as the Rangers scored 16 runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Matt Garza allowed eight hits and five runs while striking out eight over 6.1 innings to get the win and go to 3-1 since joining the Rangers. For Tuesday’s game the Rangers start Travis Balckley who makes his first appearance for the Rangers after working out of the bullpen for the Astros this season. For the year Blackley has allowed 30 hits and 19 earned runs while striking out 29 over 35 innings for a 1-1 record and a 4.89 ERA.

The Houston Astros never had a chance on Monday as they were on the wrong end of a beat down at the hands of the Rangers. Jason Castro had two hits and Brett Wallace and Jose Altuve each had hits as the Astros scored five runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Lucas Harrell allowed seven hits and nine runs, seven earned, while striking out two over 2.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 6-14 on the season. For Tuesday’s game the Astros start Jarred Cosart who has five no decisions in a row. For the season cosart has allowed 28 hits and five earned runs while striking out 18 over 39 innings for a 1-0 record and a 1.15 ERA.
Texas is 16-4 in their last 20 games, 11-4 against a right-handed starter, and 3-8 in their last 11 Tuesday games. Houston is 18-43 in their last 61 road games against a left-handed starter, 14-38 in their last 52 games overall, and 27-88 against a team with a winning record. Houston is 1-6 in their last seven games in Texas.
Texas is just much the better team here and while I don't like laying big numbers, I hate losing more.
