The Pittsburgh Pirates are on the cusp of sweeping the San Diego Padres Wednesday.
Pittsburgh pummeled SD 8-1 Tuesday night. The Pirates blew the Padres' doors off with a five-run seventh inning. Andrew McCutchen's and Jerome Harrison's RBI-triples to deep right center field scored Pittsburgh's five runs during the pivotal frame.

San Diego tallied their only run during the bottom of the fourth on Jed Gyorko's home run. Nei Walker got the scoring started during the first inning with a HR. Russell Martin's RBI-double and Pedro Alvarez's RBI-triple drove in two more Pirates. The Padres were outhit 9-6. Alexi Amarista and Ronny Cedeno reached base twice for the home team, one time via Alvarez's error.
One of the next aces Ian Kennedy (4-9, 5.12 ERA) is sick of losing. Whether it's him or the team Kennedy has been disappointed quite a bit. Just in SD starts the Padres are 1-2 when Kennedy hurls. Kennedy is 1-1, splitting with the New York Yankees and New York Mets at Petco Park, conceding two and five runs during 5.2 and 4.2 frames to prevail 6-3 and fall 5-2.
With the Arizona Diamondbacks Kennedy was 3-8 with a 5.23 ERA. Arizona was 7-14, 1-9 in Kennedy's last 10 starts, when he went to the hill. Pittsburgh nipped the D-Backs twice by a run last year including at PNC Park 7-6. Kennedy took a 7-6 defeat surrendering six runs during four innings. Kennedy bled for four runs during six frames in Arizona. The Pirates are 26-of-84 with 16 RBIs, seven Walker's, versus Kennedy.
Gerrit Cole (6-5, 3.88 ERA) goes next for Pittsburgh. Cole surprisingly has 12 starts, just three though on the road. At the Los Angeles Angels and Washington Nationals Cole won 5-2 and 5-1 allowing three runs during 13.1 innings. At the Miami Marlins July 28 Cole went down 3-2 seeing in three runs during seven frames.
Cole has gone seven innings thrice this season, all in July, and two were losses. The Pirates are 2-1 so far in August when Cole is handed the baseball. Pittsburgh was 4-0 in June and 1-4 in July when Cole was given the assignment. San Diego needs a heady game from Kennedy just to stand a chance.
