The Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds end their series with a Thursday afternoon bout.
I think we have reached the point in the season where the Diamondbacks have got to get and stay hot through the end of the season and get some help. The Dodgers look like the kings of the National League West and the Wild Card gets a little further away following each defeat. A 10-7 loss to Cincinnati was a step in the wrong direction with the Reds being in Wild Card competition. The bats were great but the pitching wasn't with Brandon McCarthy getting hammered for seven runs on eight hits and a walk in only 2.1 innings. The offense did their best to come back on a ten hit five walk attack producing a two run bomb by Adam Eaton, while Jason Kubel laced a two run PH single. The Diamondbacks turn to Trevor Cahill to finish off their series with Cincinnati. Cahill has been in struggle mode with 16 runs allowed on 22 hits and six free passes over 14.1 innings covering three starts.

Cincinnati has been playing well and need to with no room for error in the top heavy National League Central. After Wednesday's offensive explosion saved the pitching, the Reds have won eight of eleven to keep the pressure on Pittsburgh and St Louis. Mike Leake got the win but didn't throw well with four runs allowed in six frames before the pen made things interesting with three runs plated. The offense came up big with 15 hits and a pair of free passes that had given the team an 8-0 lead in the early going. Shin-Soo Choo homered among his four hits and drove in three runs, while Devin Mesoraco knocked in two more. Mat Latos toes the rubber in the series finale' against Arizona on Thursday afternoon. Latos has been solid with five consecutive quality starts in which he has gone 3-1 with a no decision.
I have not always been great at picking a game Latos pitches but I do think he has the edge here. He just seems to put runners on base when I'm on him so I expect another wild ride...
