Cincinnati Reds vs. Milwaukee Brewers Free Pick - 8/24/13

The Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds go at it in an NL Central tilt.
The Brewers have been out of the postseason conversation for quite awhile and have been reduced to a spoiler just a few years removed from winning the National League Central. Milwaukee is playing .500 baseball over the last few weeks with nether the work on the mound or at the plate showing any consistency. The Brew Crew received enough of both to upend Cincinnati 6-4 on Friday with Yovani Gallardo allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks over six frames. The Milwaukee attack came through with nine hits and four walks with Khris Davis connecting on a pair of two run bombs, while Scooter Gennett went solo. Wily Peralta pitches against rival Cincinnati for the second straight time Saturday. Peralta didn’t fare well in that match up with seven runs plated on eight hits and four BB over 4.1 innings.
Cincinnati is in the middle of the National League Central race but it looks like it’s going to be tough to get past St Louis and Pittsburgh. The Wild Card is there for the taking with the Central easily being the strongest division in the NL. Despite Friday’s defeat the Reds have won seven of eleven but need to get back on the winning track because the Wild Card is still not the ultimate goal. Homer Bailey gave up three runs through six frames but Alfredo Simon took the loss with three runs plated through only 2/3 of an inning. That was too much for the offense to deal with despite a ten hit, two walk attack that saw Zack Cozart knock in a pair of runs, with Brandon Phillips going solo. Bronson Arroyo squares off with Milwaukee on Saturday looking to win his 4th straight. In his three prior wins Arroyo has allowed four runs on 13 hits and has not issued a walk over 20 innings of work.
Cincinnati is sizable favorites fairly often which makes them a tough bet. This is another big chalk contest and not my favorite to be honest…
