The Oakland Athletics visit Camden Yards to take the field with the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.
Oakland has been the Rangers only competition in the American League West but the Athletics haven't been playing well and Texas has which means the Wild Card might be the goal. The offense hasn't been consistent but came up big Friday but unfortunately it wasn't big enough in a 9-7 defeat at Camden Yards. Daniel Strailey didn't have good stuff with six runs plated on four hits and four BB over just 3.1 innings. The bats pounded out 12 hits and walked three times with Brandon Moss going deep and driving in two, while Eric Sogard knocked in two more. Left hander Tom Milone gets the ball versus Baltimore in game number two of their series. Milone did not get a decision in a 7-3 defeat to Cleveland where he allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk in 4.1 innings.

Third place Baltimore might still be in the running for the American League East but they have to begin stringing the wins together before it's too late. The Birds have been a bit stagnant because neither the work on the mound or at the plate has been great and hasn't been on the same page. Neither were on the same Friday but it didn't matter with the bats coming up with one of their bigger efforts. The O's needed it with starter Bud Norris charged with all seven runs on nine hits and a trio of free passes while striking out seven through 4.1 innings. The Orioles got plenty of mileage on seven hits and seven base on balls with Brian Roberts connecting on a grand slam and Adam Jones smacking a two run homer and knocking in three. The Orioles turn to win leader Chris Tillman on the bump for Saturday's start versus Oakland. Tillman absorbed a rare loss by a 4-3 count to Tampa Bay with all four runs plated on five hits including two homers over six frames.
Both teams need to begin to win consistently in what is turned out to be a battle for the Wild Card. Jarrod Parker is starting to pop up as the A's pitcher so check out the lineups before betting...
