Jon Lester (11-7, 4.09 ERA) hustles out next for Boston who is hoping more of the same in his last start Saturday. Lester blanked the San Francisco Giants on the road 7-0 Aug. 19. 8.1 scoreless innings came five days after yielding three runs, two earned, during 6.1 frames at the Toronto Blue Jays. The Red Sox fell 4-3. Boston is 7-10 in Lester's away appearances.
Lester has been beaten at the Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Royals, New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays allowing 33 runs, 30 earned, during 40.1 innings. Lester's other road victories beside at SF came against Baltimore, the Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians, NYY, TB and Toronto conceding 11 runs during 38.2 frames. LA is 19-of-75 with five RBIs, a pair each from Carl Crawford and Nick Punto, versus Lester.
The Dodgers respond with Hyun-Jin Ryu (12-4, 2.95 ERA). In Los Angeles Ryu is 6-1 only going down 3-0 to SF April 2 via giving up three runs, one earned, during 7.1 innings.
In Ryu's home victories the opposition has knocked in seven runs during 42 frames. Ryu lost 6-2 at the Miami Marlins in his last start. The Sox shouldn't be blanked again while Lester may stifle the Dodgers at the dish.
