The Miami Marlins host the Colorado Rockies in South Florida on Saturday night.
At this point in the season Colorado knows they are out of the National League West race but I think they played for pride Friday after suffering back to back 9th inning defeats in Philadelphia. On Friday it was the Rockies that rode a few late runs to a 3-2 victory at Miami. Jhoulys Chacin staved off the Fish for seven innings with both runs allowed on four hits and four BB. The offense mustered nine hits and walked twice with Michael Cuddyer and Ryan Wheeler rapping 8th inning RBI hits to erase a 2-1 deficit. Jeff Manship makes his 4th consecutive start since joining the rotation when he looks to control the Miami offense. Manship has not been at the top of his game the past two times out with eleven runs scored over ten frames.

It appears Miami is destined to finish in the National League East basement but that doesn't mean they have been a pushover because they can be competitive because of their pitching. The Marlins don't do a lot of scoring and need strong performances on the mound to win. Miami struggled at the plate Friday and it cost them and starter Tom Koehler a victory who gave up just a single run through seven frames, before Chad Qualls took the loss with two 8th inning runs. The bats managed just four hits and walked four times with Ed Lucas leaving the yard, while Greg Dobbs hit a sacrifice fly. Jose Fernandez toes the rubber against the visiting Rockies while shooting for win number ten. Fernandez has been a bright spot for the Marlins and has not allowed more than two runs in ten consecutive outings.
Neither team is going any where but I will bet the Marlins would love to get Fernandez another win. The problem here is ridiculous odds on a team that might not score so take this with a grain of salt...
