The St. Louis Cardinals and the Atlanta Braves face off on Saturday for game three of their series in St. Louis.
The St. Louis Cardinals have taken the first two games of their series with the Atlanta Braves as they shut the Braves down on Friday. Yadier Molina had three hits, Jon Jay had two hits, and Matt Holliday hit a home run as the Cardinals scored three runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Adam Wainwright went the distance allowing six hits and a run striking out nine over nine full innings to get the win and go to 15-7 on the year. For Saturday’s game the Cardinals start Shelby Miller who has two no decisions and a loss in his last three starts. For the season Miller has allowed 116 hits and 44 earned runs while striking out 145 over 132.2 innings for a 11-8 record and a 2.98 ERA.

The Atlanta Braves have just about wrapped up the National League East but they aren’t helping themselves get to the clincher as they fell on Friday in St. Louis. Freddie Freeman and Chris Johnson each had two hits and B.J. Upton had a hit as the Braves scored just one run on six hits. Starting pitcher Kris Medlen allowed six hits and three runs while striking out three over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 10-12 on the season. For Saturday’s game the Braves start Julio Teheran who has won three of his last four starts. For the season Teheran has allowed 142 hits and 49 earned runs while striking out 132 over 149 innings for a 10-6 record and a 2.96 ERA.
St. Louis is 6-1 in their last seven games, 8-3 against the NL East, and 7-3 in Miller’s last 10 starts. Atlanta is 6-2 in their last eight games as an underdog, 21-7 in their last 28 games, and 5-1 in Teheran’s last six starts. Atlanta is 3-9 in their last 12 games in St. Louis.
With these two young pitchers expect for runs to be tough to come by and my first free pick in this one is on the under. My other free play is on the winning side and I will give that Free Pick on Saturday’s 1stQuarter Podcast.
