The Chicago Cubs forced a rubber match with the San Diego Padres on Sunday by winning 3-2 Saturday at SD.
Chicago scored first during the fifth inning to only see the Padres tie things up during the bottom of the sixth. Darwin Barney, who homered the Cubs on the scoreboard initially, regained the lead for Chicago during the top of the seventh with a double.

Anthony Rizzo's RBI-single later during the seventh doubled the Cubs' lead over San Diego. Yonder Alonso's sacrifice fly a frame later was the last run scored by the Padres.
Andrew Cashner (8-8, 3.74 ERA) is SD's next ace. Cashner is desperately seeking to stop a three-game skid. which has seen him concede 11 runs, seven earned, during 19 innings after beating the New York Yankees 7-2 at Petco Park. Aside from the Pittsburgh Pirates Aug. 19 just the Colorado Rockies and Seattle Mariners have bested Cashner at Petco striking for seven runs, six earned, during 11 frames.
Cashner's Petco Park victories prior to the NYY came over the Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins, San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals surrendering six runs during 28 innings. On May 1 at Chicago Cashner fell 6-2 bleeding for five runs, four earned, during four frames off of six hits and four walks. The Cubs are 7-of-23 with nine RBIs, a pair from Brian Bogusevic, Starlin Castro, Dioner Navarro and Ian Stewart, against Cashner.
Chicago comes back with Chris Rusin (2-3, 3.08 ERA) who'll be just making his eighth start this season on Sunday. Rusin is 2-0 on the road beating the Arizona Diamondbacks and St. Louis Cardinals by conceding two runs during 11 innings. The Cubs won 1-0 July 27 at SF in part to Rusin taking a seven-frame no-run no-decision. At the Oakland Athletics Rusin let in three runs during 3.1 innings of an 8-7 Chicago defeat. The Padres get redemption.
