Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees Free Pick - 8/27/13

The New York Yankees hope to keep their postseason hopes alive with a win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Yankees need a good series in Toronto to stay alive in the American League East and they didn’t get off on the right foot in a 5-2 defeat on Monday. There is time left in the season but not enough to win a few followed by losing a few and the Bronx Bombers are doing the latter with losses in three of four. Starter Phil Hughes was flat with all five runs plated (four eaned) on seven hits and and three BB over just 4.2 innings pitched. That was game over with the Yanks seven hit, three walk attack producing a solo homer off the bat of Alex Rodriguez with a ground out plating another. Veteran left hander Andy Pettitte draws Tuesday’s starting assignment against Toronto. Pettitte is riding the momentum of consecutive victories where he has given up only one earned run over 12.2 innings.
Toronto has been out of the American League East race for quite awhile but that doesn’t mean they won’t be a factor in who wins the division and who doesn’t. The Blue Jays dealt the Yankees playoff drive a blow with Monday’s victory which was their second straight following a seven game slide. RA Dickey had his knuckleball working with both runs given up (one earned) on six hits and a trio of bases on balls through 6.1 innings of work while recording six K’s. The offense came through with a strong effort on seven hits and four walks that saw Edwin Encarnacion double in a run and driving in another with a sac fly. Lefty JA Happ toes the rubber for the second straight time versus the Yankees. Happ didn’t fair well the last time he faced this team with four runs plated on three hits and five BB over 5.1 innings of a 5-3 defeat.
The Blue Jays are still a dangerous team and I really believe another win over the Yankees could end the visitors playoff drive. The wily veteran Pettitte is no spring chicken but these are the type of games he was money in and I’m hoping for one more here…
