2013-08-28 07:40:00 EDT
The Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants collide in a rubber match on Wednesday.
SF avenged a 6-1 Monday loss by winning 5-3 on Tuesday. The Giants outhit Colorado 13-8. Both teams left eight runners on base and combined to go 2-of-16 with Runners In Scoring Position. The Rockies were 1-of-10 with Wilin Rosario singling in Colorado’s second run.
San Francisco scored the first three runs thanks to Hunter Pence and Pablo Sandoval first-inning blasts. Charlie Blackmon’s RBI-double got the Rockies on the scoreboard during the third. Later D.J. LeMahieu’s groundout scored Jordan Pacheco. The Giants meanwhile also tallied runs via Hector Sanchez’s RBI-single and Marco Scutaro’s sacrifice fly.
Jhoulys Chacin (12-7, 3.22 ERA) hurls next for Colorado seeking his sixth decision in August. Chacin’s victories this month have come at the Miami Marlins and Pittsburgh Pirates along with beating the San Diego Padres yielding a total of five runs during 23 innings. In two Chacin losses at the Baltimore Orioles and New York Mets Chacin conceded five runs during 12.1 frames.

At Coors Field though Chacin is 7-3 this season toppling the Arizona Diamondbacks and SD in April allowing one run during 13 innings. SF and the Tampa Bay Rays thumped Chacin in May striking for 14 runs, 13 earned, during 12.1 frames. The Giants squeezed Chacin for eight runs during 5.1 innings. A month-and-half later at Coors Chacin triumphed 4-1 over San Francisco who couldn’t drive in a run during eight frames by the Rockies ace. Versus Chacin all-time the Giants are 38-of-138 with a dozen RBIs, four from Sandoval.
SF sends out Madison Bumgarner (11-8, 2.84 ERA) who is 2-1 versus Colorado this year. Bumgarner beat the Rockies 4-2 at AT&T Park April 8 surrendering two runs during 5.2 innings. At Coors Field Bumgarner gave up 10 runs, eight earned, during 11.2 frames in a win and defeat. On May 17 Bumgarner was hosed for nine runs, seven earned, during 4.2 innings.
The Giants are 8-6 in Bumgarner’s away voyages falling in his last two despite leaving with a four and five-frame one and four-run no-decision. Bumgarner has won at Arizona, the Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, Colorado, Los Angeles Dodgers, Padres and TB seeing in nine runs during 47.2 frames. The Rockies are 52-of-181 with 24 RBIs, seven Carlos Gonzalez’s, against Bumgarner. I like Colorado a little more Wednesday.
