The Detroit Tigers and the Oakland A’s meet on Tuesday in Detroit for game two of their series following Oakland’s win in game one on Monday.
The Detroit Tigers look to be in control of the AL Central but things can change is a hurry as they didn’t help their cause on Monday. Miguel Cabrera hit his 43rd home run and Victor Martinez and Omar Infante hit home runs as the Tigers scored six runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez allowed five hits and four runs while striking out six over 5.0 innings for a no decision as Jose Alvarez took the loss. For Tuesday’s game the Tigers start Justin Verlander who has two no decisions and a loss in his last three starts. For the season Verlander allowed 174 hits and 71 earned runs while striking out 16 over 173.2 innings for a 12-9 record and a 3.68 ERA.

The Oakland A’s haven’t been playing their best baseball of late but on Monday they played very well and got the win in Detroit. Coco Crisp had three hits including a home run and Alberto Callespo and Daric Barton each had two hits as the A’s scored eight runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher A.J. Griffin allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out four over 5.0 innings to get the win and go to 11-9 on the season while Grant Balfour earned his 33rd save. For Tuesday’s game the A’s start Tom Milone who has pitched better in the second half of the season than he did in the first. For Tuesday’s game Milone has allowed 145 hits and 66 earned runs while striking out 105 over 138 innings for a 9-9 record and a 4.30 ERA.
Detroit is 25-10 in their last 35 games, 2-7 against the AL West, and 2-5 in Verlander’s last seven starts. Oakland is 2-4 in their last six games, 13-4 against the AL Central, and 6-2 in Milone’s last eight starts. Detroit is 6-0 in Verlander’s last six starts against Oakland.
I thought the Tigers had a big edge on Monday and they didn’t take advantage of it but in this one I see it as the A’s having the edge so I am taking them at the price.
