The San Francisco Giants visit the Arizona Diamondbacks in NL West action Friday night.
San Francisco has been the creme of the crop the last few years in the National League West behind one of the better rotations in the game and clutch hitting. That winning combination has not been seen often enough in 2013 and the result has seen SF fall to the division cellar. The club has dropped seven of eleven following a 5-4 defeat at Colorado on Wednesday as the offense was no hit through six frames by Jhoulys Chacin. A late rally fell short with Madison Bumgarner allowing all four runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk in 5.1 innings. The bats totaled five hits and walked twice with three 8th inning runs making this closer than what it was. The Giants turn to Tim Lincecum to begin the series with the rival Diamondbacks. Lincecum has not been at the top of his game the last three times out with a combined 14 runs plated on 19 hits and ten BB in 16.1 innings.

Arizona is the only team with a winning record in the West outside of the Dodgers and that doesn't appear to be enough to get in to the postseason unless Los Angeles falls off the map and Cincinnati and Pittsburgh follow suit in the Wild Card chase. The Diamondbacks haven't helped themselves with defeats in six of ten following a 5-1 loss to visiting San Diego where neither the bats or arms came through. Wade Miley allowed two runs in the first and that was it through seven innings before Heath Bell gave up three in the 8th. That was to much scoring for the offense to deal with with ten hits and two waks unable to mount a significant night on the scoreboard. Willie Bloomquist smacked a run scoring single in 6th but that was it for the Snakes who missed out on several opportunities. The Diamondbacks give Randall Degado Friday's starting assignment versus San Francisco. Delgado has generally been dependable but he can be erratic with seven solid outings in his past ten starts where he has gone 4-2.
I am favoring the Diamondbacks who still have a slight chance at making the playoffs even though Delgado scares me a bit. Lincecum is always capable of big things but he has struggled in this match up...
