Milwaukee Brewers vs. Los Angeles Angels Free Pick - 8/31/13
2013-08-31 06:10:00 EDT
The Los Angeles Angels continue their series at Miller Park with the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Angels have been hot, but this is a case of too little, too late, with Oakland and Texas running away with the American League West. The Angels struggles have been surprising, with their lineup capable of scoring, but not while the pitching has been hit or miss. Both units were at the top of their games Friday in a 5-0 victory at Miller Park. Ace Jered Weaver brought his ‘A’ game, with three hits and three walks given up over six scoreless innings. The bats made that a winning effort, with eight hits and two BB producing Grant Green’s three run double and Kole Calhoun’s solo homer. Jerome Williams gets the starting nod versus the Brewers in game two of their series on Saturday. Williams has struggled in the rotation, but didn’t in a 3-1 loss to Cleveland in which he gave up two runs in 6.1 innings.
Milwaukee is in the same boat as their counterparts in that neither the work on the mound or at the plate has been real strong or consistent, which makes it tough to win. The Brewers had won three of four before the bats ran in to Jered Weaver, which usually is a bad thing for opponents. That was the story for the Brew Crew, who mustered only six hits and five bases on balls, but could never break through. That squandered a decent performance by Wily Peralta, who gave up three runs on four hits and a pair of free passes over six innings before Rob Wooten sealed the deal with two more runs plated. Milwaukee sends Marco Estrada to the bump to face the Angels Saturday evening. Estrada has been up and down throughout the year and was up versus Cincinati, with a one hit shut out over seven frames of a 3-1 win.
Betting either team is risky business and their respective records tell that story. I’ll back the home team because Estrada might be the lesser of two evils, or so I think.
