The Texas Rangers look to stay hot when they host the Minnesota Twins in the series opener Friday.
I have tooted the horn for Minnesota at times because I believe them to be a dangerous squad, which I stll believe. Having said that, the Twins appear to have run out of gas, with the offense scoring only six times in five consecutive defeats after a 3-1 loss to visiting Kansas City on Thursday. The Twins need production from both the arms and bats to be successful and that hasn't happened often enough. Starter Samuel Deduno gave all three runs on four hits and a free pass in just three frames and that was all the Royals needed, with the home team mustering only five hits and a pair of walks. Brian Dozier was the offense with his 14th homer of 2013. Minnesota kicks off their series in Texas with Liam Hendrick, who will make his fifth sart of 2013, on the mound. Hendricks suffered a 7-2 defeat at Cleveland with all seven runs plated in 4.2 frames.

The Rangers sit atop the American League West, but their grip is far from secure with Oakland lurking in the shadows. That means Texas must continue to win, as victories in seven of ten are history and must continue till the end of the year. The club polished off a sweep of Seattle by thrashing Mariners ace Felix Hernandez 12-4 on Wednesday. Martin Perez picked up the win with two runs given up on six hits and a pair of free passes over six innings, while the offense pounded out 17 hits and walked twice. Leonys Martin homered and knocked in four runs, while Adrian Beltre and Mitch Moreland also left the yard as Texas built a 10-0 lead by the 4th. Yu Darvish faces Minnesota Friday, shooting for win number 13 on the season. Darvish is having a great season and has been one reason the Rangers are in first, with quality starts in eight of ten.
Texas needs to keep winning with Oakland not far behind so in a way the postseason has begun for them. I'll back them, but no play with no value even on the run line...
