Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres Free Pick - 8/31/13
2013-08-31 08:10:00 EDT
The San Diego Padres led the opener 1-0 before falling 9-2 at the Los Angeles Dodgers. SD looks for revenge in LA on Saturday.
The Padres were only outhit 13-11. Ronny Cedeno and Hanley Ramirez each had an error for San Diego and the Dodgers. The Padres sprang out to a lead on Logan Forsythe’s RBI-double during the top of the second.
Hyun-Jin Ryu (13-5, 3.02 ERA) tied things up for Los Angeles during the home-half, which also saw Yasiel Puig put the Dodgers ahead 2-1. Adrian Gonzalez, Ramirez and A.J. Ellis drove in runs later. Chris Denorfia knocked in a run during the top of the ninth for the final damage done by the visitors.
Andrew Cashner (8-8, 3.55 ERA) takes on nemesis LA next. On June 23, the Dodgers trumped SD 3-1 at Petco Park, despite Cashner conceding a run during eight innings. In three relief roles by Cashner, two at Petco, in April, the Padres were 2-1 versus Los Angeles, who drove in two runs during 4.2 frames.

San Diego won two of those three tilts and the Dodgers are just 12-of-59 with a Nick Punto and Juan Uribe RBI against Cashner. The Padres are 6-8 in Cashner’s away appearances. Cashner, though, is 3-5 tumbling to the Cincinnati Reds and Colorado Rockies in August, allowing eight runs, six earned, during 12 innings.
LA offers out Chris Capuano (4-7, 4.74 ERA) to the mound. Capuano is 2-5 at Dodger Stadium, being tortured for 19.2 frames of 27-run 23-earned baseball. Los Angeles is 5-5 overall with Capuano at home.
SD smacked Capuano around for five runs during two innings April 16 in a 9-2 win at Dodger Stadium. However, the Padres were blanked in San Diego during 7.2 frames by Capuano. LA lost two of the three battles and the Padres are 37-of-146 with a dozen RBIs, four Chase Headley’s, versus Capuano. I like SD ever so slightly more Saturday night.
