The Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins face-off on Sunday in Atlanta as they close out their weekend series.
It took them an extra inning to get it done, but the Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins on Saturday in Altanta. B.J. Upton had four hits, including a home run, Chris Johnson had four hits and Jordan Schafer had a hit, as the Braves scored five runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Mike Minor allowed five hits and four earned runs, while striking out six over 7.0 innings for a no decision, while Luis Ayala got the win. For the second night in a row, the Miami Marlins played the Braves close and for the second night in a row, they came up a run short. Giancarlo Stanton and Justin Ruggiano each had home runs and Logan Morrison added a hit, but the marlins scored four runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Jacob Turner allowed four hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out four over 5.2 innings to not factor in the decision as Ryan Webb took the loss to fall to 1-5 on the year. For Sunday’s game, the Marlins start Nathan Eovaldi, who has lost his last five decisions. For the season, Eovaldi has allowed 70 hits and 32 earned runs, while striking out 55 over 76.2 innings for a 2-5 record and a 3.76 ERA.
Atlanta is 21-6 in their last 27 games as a favorite, 41-13 in their last 54 home games, and 5-1 in Wood’s last six starts. Miami is 7-20 in their last 27 games as an underdog, 20-55 in their last 75 road games, and 3-7 in Eovaldi’s last 10 road starts. Miami is 4-12 in their last 16 games in Atlanta.
The Braves are big favorites here and they should be, so I look for them to win fairly easily.
