2013-09-02 12:35:00 EDT
The Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers battle it out on Monday at Fenway Park in a meeting of first place teams.
The Boston Red Sox have been near or in the lead of the AL East for the entire season and they currently have their biggest lead at five games. The Red Sox are 8-2 in their last 10 games and 45-24 at home this season. David Ortiz is the heart and soul of the Red Sox hitting .315 while Dustin Pedroia and Jacoby Ellsbury stir the pot hitting .300 and .299 consecutively. John Lackey gets the start for game one and he is coming off of a no decision against Baltimore but he has lost five of his last six decisions. Overall lackey is 8-11 with a 3.19 ERA and 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA in his last three starts.
The Detroit Tigers aren’t playing their best baseball right now but even so their lead in the American League Central is at 7.5 games. The Tigers are 6-4 in their last 10 games and 36-30 overall on the road. Miguel Cabrera is looking at another MVP season hitting .358 with 43 home runs but his status is up in the air for this one But Jhonny Peralta is at .305 and Torri Hunter is at .304 as the Tigers’ lineup is just stacked. Doug Fister gets the ball for the Tigers in this one and he is 11-7 on the season with a 3.81 ERA but over his last three starts Fister is 1-1 with his ERA ballooning to 5.60 but the Tigers have won two of those three games.
Boston is 7-1 in their last eight games, 26-10 in their last 36 home games, and 3-8 in Lackey’s last 11 starts against the AL Central. Detroit is 4-0 in their last four road games, 6-2 on the road against a team with a winning record, and 5-2 in Foster’s last seven road starts. Detroit is 17-40 in their last 57 games in Boston.
I expect a playoff type atmosphere and for this one to belong to the pitchers and for my free pick I am going to take the under. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post the winning team in the Premium Area.
