Oakland Athletics vs. Texas Rangers Free Pick - 9/3/13
2013-09-03 09:05:00 EDT
The Oakland Athletics host the Texas Rangers with the winner taking over first in the West.
The American League West seems like a repeat of 2012, where Oakland and Texas battled down to the last game of the season. Could happen again with the division all knotted up after the Rangers fell to Oakland 4-2 on Tuesday. Texas has dropped three of four, where the offense has scored two runs in each. Starter Derek Holland lasted just 4.2 innings, with all four runs allowed (three earned) on five hits and five free passes to take the loss. The bats totaled eight hits and walked four times, but David Murphy was the only source of scoring with a two-run jack. With first place in the division on the line, Texas turns to Martin Perez to pitch them past the Athletics. Perez might be the right man for the job, as he has won six in a item with 13 runs allowed over 42.2 frames.
Oakland had been in slow down mode several weeks ago, but suddenly without warning they have righted the ship and reeled off eight of eleven. Both the work on the mound and at the plate has been strong in this span, with the pitching carrying the team Tuesday, along with a few early hits. Starter Daniel Strailey picked up the win, with both runs given up on three hits and three free passes covering five innings of work. The offense consisted of six hits and five walks, with Coco Crisp clubbing a two-run bomb, while Yoenis Cespedes went the solo route. Ace Bartolo Colon gets a shot at carrying his team past Texas Tuesday and into first. Colon appeared to have knocked off Detroit and Max Scherzer last time out, with one run allowed in five innings before the pen was blasted for six runs in a 7-6 loss.
This looks like a great game to watch with so much on the line, but it could be one to watch instead of bet. I favor the A’s, even though that has been tough to deal with…
